Respect Life Ministry
The Respect Life Ministry at OLG participates in many events throughout the year to defend the dignity of human life and to support life in all stages. The pro-life march in Washington D.C., several collections for mothers in need, and the 40 Days for Life campaign are just some of the many things we do! You can find more specific information about these events below. If interested or for more information, please call Ellen Gifford at (215)-601-9945, or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Respect Life Sunday
Since 1972, the Church has designated the first Sunday of October as “Respect Life Sunday,” and has dedicated the entire month to advancing a “Culture of Life.” The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has focused its educational programs on such critical concerns as euthanasia, marriage and family life, capital punishment, poverty, immigration issues, chastity, Natural Family Planning (NFP), biotechnology, persons with disabilities, children, teens, abortion, post-abortion healing, the elderly, and more. On Respect Life Sunday, the OLG Respect Life Ministry distributes information and accepts donations from parishioners to support this ministry and local Respect Life organizations.
Mother’s Day Flower Sale
As a celebration of motherhood, each year the Respect Life Ministry sponsors a rose sale after each Mass on Mother’s Day. The proceeds support several local crisis pregnancy centers.
Masses and Prayer Vigils
On reparation Saturday (the first Saturday of the month), the PA Pro-Life Coalition sponsors a Mass at St. Katherine of Siena in NE Philadelphia at 8:00 AM, followed by a 15-decade rosary at the Planned Parenthood (PP) facility on Comly Road.
The Rosary Society of Our Lady of Grace prays a Pro-Life 15-decade rosary on the first Saturday of the month after the 8:00 AM daily Mass.
Every Friday morning, the Bucks County Pro-Life Coalition (BCPLC) sponsors a prayer vigil at the Planned Parenthood facility on Louis Drive in Warminster, where rosaries are recited for the closing of the facility, the conversion of the employees, and the mothers and babies who are victimized there.
In the spring and fall, the BCPLC participates in the 40 Days for Life campaign. OLG commits to have at least 2 people every hour for a 12-hour day to pray at the Warminster PP facility.
Stand Up for Life Dinner
Each November, the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia holds a “Stand Up for Life” Dinner at the Sheraton Hotel in Philadelphia. The speaker is always someone prominent in the Pro-Life movement.
March for Life
The annual March for Life is held in Washington, D.C. in January on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion during all nine months of pregnancy. Several parishes in the area send buses to the March. Parishioners of OLG are encouraged to participate in this wonderful pro-life activity!
Bl. Margaret Home for Crisis Pregnancies & Women’s Community Center
Each summer, the Respect Life Ministry supports a parish “Baby Shower” to benefit the Blessed Margaret of Castello Home for Crisis Pregnancies in Bensalem, and the Women’s Community Center in Bristol. Parishioners are encouraged to bring new baby items requested by the centers for mothers in need. The Respect Life Ministry is responsible for delivering the donated items to the centers where they are distributed to the mothers for their babies. Members of the Respect Life Ministry also volunteer at the Bl. Margaret Home in several different capacities.
