~ Week of January 10, 2021 ~
Dear Friends,
Today we conclude the Christmas Season with the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. John the Baptist, when preparing for the coming of Christ Jesus says: “I baptize you with water, the one coming after me will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” Jesus’ baptism by John is a symbolic event pointing to the sacramental baptism in which we participate. Through baptism we are united with Christ in His death so that we too might have a share in divine life as children of God. When Jesus was baptized, God the Father speaks: “You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.” Through our baptism we become adopted sons and daughters of God the Father, brothers and sisters to Christ Jesus and to each other. As we begin the new year of Ordinary Time, we have the opportunity to recommit or rededicate ourselves to the Lord seeking to please Him in all we do.
We were fortunate to be able to celebrate Mass at Attleboro Independent Living on the Tuesday before Christmas. It was a wonderful celebration and so good to see the faithful there who have not been able to attend Mass since March. They were in great spirits and we look forward to returning to our regular monthly Masses there along with the three other residences/nursing homes served by the parish as soon as the restrictions are lifted. Please keep all the residences in your prayers.
At some point in the (hopefully) near future, we will be having the roof on the Church replaced. You may have noticed the leaks over the past one and one-half months. One of them was a large one. Temporary fixes have been made but we lost a lot of shingles in the last major storm. After having the roof evaluated, it was determined that it needs replacing. Looks like we got a good twenty-five years from this one, which I’m told is pretty good. We have been given a “heads up” that the interior of the Church will get a significant amount of dirt/debris during the process so at some point we will be moving liturgies to the gym. Hopefully it will only be for two weeks. Weather and any unseen damage under the shingles might extend this period, please be patient. With the current attendance rate for our weekend liturgies, the gym will have ample space to allow safe distancing and parking. We will keep you posted when a start date is finalized.
Thank you again for all you do in supporting the parish.
God bless,
Monsignor Prior
