The Respect Life Ministry at OLG participates in many events throughout the year to defend the dignity of human life and to support life in all stages. You can find more specific information about these events below. If interested or for more information, please contact the Parish Office at (215)-757-7700.
Since 1972, the Church has designated the first Sunday of October as “Respect Life Sunday,” and has dedicated the entire month to advancing a “Culture of Life.” The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has focused its educational programs on such critical concerns as euthanasia, marriage and family life, capital punishment, poverty, immigration issues, chastity, Natural Family Planning (NFP), biotechnology, persons with disabilities, children, teens, abortion, post-abortion healing, the elderly, and more. On Respect Life Sunday, the OLG Respect Life Ministry sells wooden roses to support this ministry and local Respect Life organizations. The Rosary is also prayed throughout the weekend as part of the national Pro-Life Rosary Rally.
As a celebration of motherhood, each year the Respect Life Ministry sponsors a rose sale after each Mass on Mother’s Day. The proceeds support several local crisis pregnancy centers.
On the first Saturday of the month, the PA Pro-Life Coalition sponsors a Mass at St. Katherine of Siena in NE Philadelphia at 8:00 AM, followed by a 15-decade rosary at the Planned Parenthood (PP) facility on Comly Road.
The annual March for Life is held in Washington, D.C. in January on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion during all nine months of pregnancy. Several parishes in the area send buses to the March. Parishioners of OLG are encouraged to participate!
Each summer, the Respect Life Ministry supports a parish “Baby Shower” to benefit the Blessed Margaret of Castello Home for Crisis Pregnancies, the Legacy of Life Foundation, and the Bucks County Women's Center (all are local organizations). Parishioners are encouraged to bring new baby items requested by the centers for mothers in need. The Respect Life Ministry is responsible for delivering the donated items to the centers where they are distributed to the mothers for their babies. Members of the Respect Life Ministry also volunteer at the Bl. Margaret Home in several different capacities.
